I’ve been there. You’re on the edge, but you’re afraid to dive in. Sure, from the side of the pool, the water doesn’t seem so bad. But there is still a part of you that’s afraid to make the jump. But, listen. Make that jump. You will never regret recovery. You will never regret taking time to heal. Even if it’s scary.
Recovery isn’t always pretty, nor is it fun. Just like jumping into a pool, sometimes the initial contact with the water is jarring. You think of what it was like to be warm outside of the pool. But, when you skirt around the edge of recovery, and you are “just well enough” to continue functioning… that’s not living.
It’s easy to avoid things because they’re hard. Believe me, I know. That said, after all the mess that is trying to sort out your mind, after all the long hours, the tears, and the discomfort… you will be so grateful that you made that jump. Because one day, things will feel easier. Being kind to yourself with start being less difficult. You will start appreciating yourself, and there is no greater feeling out there.
To the person who is dipping their toes into the pool of recovery: dive in. I’ve been you. The best thing you can do for yourself is go for it.
